Our History

• 1973 - The school was founded as Bethel Christian Academy, a ministry of Bethel Baptist Church, located near North 76th Street and West Luscher Avenue. The first classes were held in the basement of the church and in the balcony and sanctuary. Bethel Christian served 24 students its first year.

• 1975 - Mr. Thomas Wittkamper was hired as principal. School size had expanded to approximately 80 students. Plans for a full program were under way.

• 1976 - The school was incorporated as Heritage Christian Schools, Inc. ("HCS").

• 1979 - HCS graduates first student from high school.

• 1984 - Entire school moves into the 108th Street location. This central location of the new facility resulted in a continued increase in enrollment. Soon, another building was needed to adequately provide for the continuing demand for classrooms.

• 1989 - Elementary is relocated to the vacated Linfield Elementary School building which had become available for lease from the Elmbrook School District.

• 1997 - A generous donation allows HCS to purchase the Linfield building and make it our own. The facility is located on 6.5 acres of land, which allows for soccer fields and softball diamonds.

• 2001 - Elementary campus named “Ned & Elfie Gallun Building” in honor of their generous donation which allowed for the building purchase.

• 2002 - Heritage graduates its 1,000th student.

• 2003 - Elementary library named in honor of founding board member Ada Martin.

• 2003 - Preschool opened

• 2005 - New High School, Administration & Gymnasium addition opened

• 2009 - Mr. Thomas Wittkamper resigns. Mark MacKay assumes position of Superintendent. New Board Of Directors installed. "Rebuilding A Legacy Campaign" launched. A new era begins!
